When ordering the new iphone, it asks if you already have an iphone whether you want to:

1) Replace your phone using your current number
2) Get it with a specific carrier
3) Don't associate it with any carrier

Is this just a 'poll'/Apple information gathering question or is it that if you were to pick #1, Apple will do something to your phone before they package it? I would prefer everything to be brand new, does it matter whichever one you pick? I am inclined to pick #3 and just associate myself after the fact (if this question even matters).

I did the option #1. And I bought it outright. None of that 3 year payment plan stuff for me.

That way when I get it, the eSIM will be all set with my cell provider and I won't have to jump through hoops to get it to work.
