Tomorrow I'll plug in what is for me my first iMac and since my Time Machine volume is a FW external drive and my Super Duper cloned backup is another FW drive, I guess I'll have to resort to unplugging the Time Machine drive and cloning to the other drive periodically, using that port. Is that what you iMac owners do to handle the single FW port limitation?

So, to actually address the OP's question without getting snarky, Firewire is actually a bus, so you can string multiple FW devices together in a serial chain and they'll all work dandy.* So, there's really no limitation with only having one physical port.
* Provided the overall number of devices isn't over 16 and the overall cable length from beginning to end is less than 15 feet.

I use a 4tb western quad interface for the time machine (USB direct connection off the base station). And will have another 4tb for storage using the 800 port, with 400's off that one... AT least I will, it my i7 is due any day now. Currently there are all 400's daisy chained off my current workstation, with the 4tb off the base station...
I always heard the limit was 63 devices, and 16 feet...
Anyone want to run out real quick and buy a few drives to put this to the test?
