Howdy,
I had a graphics problem with black screen freezes / spinning beach ball / grey lines during bootup awhile back that ended up with me getting a new graphics card & logic board. As suspected, the graphics issue is now coming back 2 weeks after the card replacements, but to a lesser extent, as I'm at least able to boot up the computer. More importantly, I'm able to reproduce it reliably. The issue results in the system completely locking up/black screen and requiring a forced power-down by holding the power button down.
My biggest question at the moment is: "Where do I go to get 'crash logs'?" After manually restarting, I've opened up the console, but there are no logs under the DiagnosticReports or CrashReporter. Is it because the System never "crashed"; rather it just got hung up? The Consol Log reports:
3/2/11 072502 AM com.apple.SystemStarter[21] PACESupport - launchd already started us
3/2/11 072505 AM com.apple.UserEventAgent-LoginWindow[89] ALF error: cannot find useragent 1102
3/2/11 072505 AM com.apple.UserEventAgent-LoginWindow[89] plugin.UserEventAgentFactory: called with typeID=FC86416D-6164-2070-726F-70735C216EC0
3/2/11 072505 AM com.apple.launchd.peruser.501[96] (com.apple.ReportCrash) Falling back to default Mach exception handler. Could not find: com.apple.ReportCrash.Self
3/2/11 072507 AM com.apple.launchd.peruser.501[96] (com.apple.Kerberos.renew.plist[120]) Exited with exit code: 1
Is this all I have to go on? What other ways can I gather data about why my system is locking up? I'm not looking to "fix" it, I already have a workaround; I just want to know where to look to find out exactly what's causing the freeze. I also understand that many of you have much better things to do than spend time trying to help someone who already has a workaround, but if you can think of a place for me to look for crash reports/logs off the top of your head, that'd be great! Thanks!
Almost forgot, I'm on an 8,1 iMac with 10.6.6 and a newly replaced NVidia 8800 GS.
