Did I miss it or have the usual tech blogs skipped this round of MB Pros? Seems weird that random people on Youtube have reviews but nothing from the usual tech blogs?

I don't care. I bought one. A review is not going to change my mind. None of the testing the reviewers use reflect real world use. Yes, running the CPU flat out in a test is useful for comparing models as is the SSD test. Real world, not so much.

On my M4 Pro with 24 Gig I maxed the CPU for 5 minutes to make the fans come on. What was most surprising to me is that I could not hear the fans when the system was held next to my ears. I know the fans were working as I could feel the warm air exiting from the back. I think complaints about noisy fans should be a thing of the past.

What was your prior machine?

What was your prior machine?
M2 Air, 16 Gig, 1 Tb.

I did not need a new machine, I could not think of any rational reason to get a new machine. I just wanted a new machine, cutting edge. This M4 is faster by a significant amount. The screen is better, more ports, better speakers. But for my needs and uses that really didn't matter. What I did gain, that I will use, is the SDXC slot as those are very fast SD cards, the same ones my camera uses. Importing into Lightroom is much faster.

That is what I did to make the fans come on. I imported about 5,000 photographs and had Lightroom build the previews. The import was fast, the building of the previews took several minutes and maxed the CPU (97%) for most of that time. I never once heard the fans.

I know a big tech reviewer who was in Los Angeles for the reveal two weeks ago and they sent him (and apparently everybody else) just the m4 pro but not the max for some mysterious reason. So I think everyone had to wait for them to be in the stores last Thursday and is just now producing their content.

Most of the reviews that have come out so far were made prior to last Friday's launch, so there could be two possible explanations. Either the M4 Max models were being held for the release date, or there was a separate review embargo for M4 Max compared to M4/M4 Pro models. I'm not terribly concerned about that either way, because I think the audience interested in the M4 Max will be smaller than either the M4 or M4 Pro userbases.

Yeah saw that, he is really hanging us dangling here with waiting with that M4 Max to last! 😂

I guess he is building momentum for the Grand Finale! 😉
I really appreciate that he has tested many of the CPU/GPU configurations. Most site just test one config for each Mac device.

Art has posted the MacBook Max review showing results for both CPU/GPU configs along with comparing results with older MacBooks and all three M4 MacBook Pro configs.

Great thank you!
Coming from the m1max for Lightroom and occasional video editing in resolve… do you think the max max is worth it, or the binned version will feel like a sufficient upgrade? I’m planing to also get the m4ultra next year as my main machine..

I would just go for the bin Max as throttling will likely limit the gain from upgrading further.
