Where can I buy a 3rd gen wall charger?

What do you mean 2nd and 3rd gen chargers? If you're talking about the design of the charger itself, I think it's only seen two major revisions: the old brick-style charger (originally FireWire, then also USB, then only USB) and the new compact one. If you're talking about iPods, they are all interchangeable--in fact, any USB charger you get will work. The only real incompatibility is that newer iPods (after 2G iPod touch--not sure where the dividing line is for other models) won't work with FireWire chargers.

Also, with the newer design, make sure there's a green dot (you can see it in the second Amazon photo) on the side that plugs into the wall--that means it's the revised version that fixes the "prongs get stuck in the wall" problem earlier adapters of this style had. (From Apple this won't be an issue; from eBay, make sure.)

I went to www.bhphotovideo.com and for 19.90 (incl shipping) got a Sony AC-U50AD USB Charging AC power adaptor for the reason you stated. Don't need to fire up the desktop in order to charge the IPT 2gen 32k. This also charges the Sony BT headphones as well.

I got this for 15$ and I like it.
Charges two iPods in the same time and you don't lose a socket: you get two.
wow this one looks really great. Does it charge iphone 3gs too? Or should I say anything else other than ipod?

in the picture..it looks like it can only be plugged in vertically...effectively blocking both outlets...
i'm looking at the prongs in the picture....do the prongs rotate? if not, we have a problem..
