Where can I buy a MBP?

Forgive me for being a noob to the forums. I'm planning on purchasing my first Mac whenever the MBP update arrives. I'm fortunate enough to have an Apple store in my city. When they update say... this tuesday will I beable to just drive to the Apple store and pick it up that day or would I have to order it online?

I'm still kinda nervous about buying a Mac. So I have another question. How much time after I buy a mac would I beable to purchase Applecare? I plan on getting applecare but I don't want to shell out the money for it right now if I can wait til around Christmas time.

you should be able to just walk in....
I would wait until the 11Jun, as there is a big Apple Conference then, and that is when new produces are often launched.
 
I would wait until WWDC on June 11th before I bought a Mac, and you can just walk in to the Apple store and buy it. You can get AppleCare up to a year after you buy the Mac.
 
The warranty, is it a global warranty which means that people can just buy their mac anywhere in the world? I'm planning to travel to Asia and their mac is a bit cheaper than the one in the UK, even after educational discount...

i didn't think you could get edu discount on applecare...

You can. The discount is substantial... I think applecare cost $250 w/ the edu discount instead of $350 w/out for my powerbook.

To the OP: I'd be slightly wary of purchasing the MBP in another country. The warranty is global however I'd be more concerned with the lay out of the keyboard. I'm not sure how different an asian keyboard layout is from the US or EU layout.
 
Yea, there is discount on applecare too..
Its $175 for applecare for macbook in UCLA...
 
I was also wondering about this, the MBP will be my first mac and fortunately there are two Apple stores within 15 miles of me.

But what if you want a different HD size or anything else that isn't the standard model? Will they have those in stock &/or can they customize it there in the store for you?

Basically I want it as soon as possible, for my sanity and so I don't spend all this money on something else.

I think that they can upgrade the MacBook Pro's hard drive in the store, although I'm not 100% sure, as I got the stock model when I bought my MacBook Pro.

i asked about upgrading ram in apple store before..
they say u need to buy the stock model, then purchase another ram, and i also need to pay for the installation fee..
That guy recommended me to buy in the website.

I guess I was given false information then. Although if you get an external hard drive (preferably FireWire, as it is faster than USB the vast majority of the time) then you wouldn't have a need to upgrade the internal hard drive. I have an external FireWire Hard drive and I have everything from my iTunes library to the .DMG files that I like to keep incase something happens to the app.
 
RAM they generally can do in-store, though larger HDD's are a BTO option in most cases [ie. you'll need to wait]
 
It really depends. Personally, I think you're better off buying RAM from somewhere like newegg.com for a fraction of the cost and doing it yourself.

Thanks for all the replies. When I go to the Apple Store to buy one, do you think they'd have the option to have Glossy screens on the MBP? or would I just have to settle with matte if I want one on the spot?

They have both in the Apple store. I personally like the matte screen better though.
 
You can normally walk in and buy the laptop.

Just wait till the 11th.

You cant buy Applecare though, for some reason its not sold in Florida because of some law.
 
I would also wait until the 11th. However if they do come out with a new MBP before then, I would highly doubt another upgrade in less than a week. I guess anything is possible though.

To be safe... what is another week of waiting?
