Where can I find OS X 10.3 Server

Hello,

I want to mess around with xGrid and other technologies that are fascinating to me. I want to get my hands on Mac OS X 10.3 Server but I have no idea where to pickup a copy.

I KNOW its old but I will be running this with a G4 Mac Mini and do not really need all the new features that are in Mac OS X 10.4 and 10.5 Server.

Heck if anyone has a copy that they don't need anymore shot me an email or a private message and lets see if we can work something out.

I should say I have already looked on eBay and didn't see anything that was really helpful, the one guy that has a copy has feedback that makes me not want to look at any of their auctions.

I can't vouch for them put did find this and this. I would still look at ebay though. I was able to snag a copy of 10.2 server for $20, 10.4 server(10 client) for $170 last year, and 10.5 server(unlimited) for $330. All on ebay, you just have spend your time waiting for the right price.

Did want to mention though, you would only be able install 10.3 on the first generation Mac mini G4's(1.25/1.33). The later versions can only run 10.4. Make sure that your model can run 10.3 before you buy that version of the server os.

I really do not want to download 10.3 server illegally. Iwas that after messing around with Xgrid for a while I would use it a web server. If I do that I want a completely legal copy of Mac OS X 10.3 Server on my G4 Mac Mini. Also I do not support illegal downloading.

I would really like to find a legal copy of the server software.

Wrong. Both Apple and this Forum do. It may not be current, but it's also not freeware or in the public domain. Specific discussion of how/where to obtain warez or cracked sw is a non-starter here, by advocating it this discussion is starting to tangent in the wrong direction. Let's keep to legitimate means here.

Yeah you should be able run 10.3 server fine. You just usually can't run a copy of OSX older than what shipped with your system. For example you wouldn't be able to run 10.2 server. But you should be fine.

So a few years ago i bought a copy of panther for my imac g3 off ebay but they were ibook g4 discs would u consider this violating the eula or w.e or illegal? cause when your installing it says requirements g3 g4 or g5 processer with a usb port and 128mb of ram. Considering it would be violating the eula or illegal they would protect it from other machines other than ibooks...

It wouldn't really be anything other than a bad purchase decision. The disks that are shipped with a machine generally do not work for anything other than the class/model/processor shipped with (not serial-specific, though). If they installed for you, count your blessings.

I keep finding Mac OS X Server 10.4 for a good price, which would be better for my hardware?

I have a G4 Mac Mini Rev A that came with a 1.25Ghz G4, 256mb ram and a 40Gb hard drive. I have upgrade the ram to a 1Gb. I don't need anything fancy just want to test out setting up and webserver and mess around with Xgrid for a little bit. I don't think I need Mac OS X Server 10.4 to do that though . . .

I don't go out of my way to break laws, if that's what you mean. As far as EULAs, I try to keep within the spirit & letter, particularly where Apple's concerned. Their pricing on OS's & most apps is dirt cheap compared to MS, Adobe, etc. I want to keep it that way.

Nah, not heated at all, just want to keep everybody out of the Ban Hamster's™ view.

I would second the suggestion to just watch eBay. Older versions of Server aren't sold by Apple, so the secondary/used market is your only real option. Sorry I can't give an idea of a "fair" price though. The numbers that Yoursh posted sound more than reasonable, though.

I was able to grab a version of server 10.3 off ebay for $35. I never ended up using it because apparently it can't run on Intel machines(or that is what i read and was told) so i re-sold it.

Yeah I am constantly looking on ebay, but nothing is really that good except for a 40 dollar copy at the moment. Thats not bad, but it has 6 days left, and I am watching . . . if no one bids on it I think I will and see if I can get it.
