Where can I find which programs are running?

I just came from a windows machine and was wondering if there was way I can see what programs/applications are currently running, whether in the background or not. Thanks for any help!

The Dock will show running user-space programs. To see what other processes are running, you can use Activity Monitor. It's in the Utilities folder, in /Applications.
