Using the Disk Utility program I see that my HD now has a Container disk1, then inside there is a Mac HD and a Mac HD- Data partition?

Also I use carbon copy cloner and I see that on my external backup drive, there is a Container disk1, and inside is Mac HD clone and also a Mac HD Clone - Data partition.

I tried running the disk utility on the HD Clone - Data partition and it would come up with an error which I could not fix.

I ran the CCC to back up my HD and it worked fine using the original Disk names. I am confused or should I be concerned?

Not same, but, seeing on occasion the "drive cannot be unmounted" message for external partitions that are not APFS. But usually works on second attempt.

I don't have an APFS external with me at the moment to try right with, but, at least with HFS partitions, can unmount the partition in Disk Utility, then run First Aid on the partition.

Bombich.com has a good explanation in blog faq and support area about APFS containers and volumes.

forget running first aid on anything but top levelpartitions or while disk.
