When I try to attach a file to an email, my folders are not on the sidebar? How do I change this back?

Click the Desktop then hit command-comma to bring up Finder preferences then look in this tab. You should be able to checkmark what you want to see in that sidebar.

Solution is for Finder. Problem is in Mail, I think. Did it work though?
The setting is for the Finder sidebar Favorites and that setting to show those carries over to the Mail attachment dialogue. At least on my system it does.
