I’d just started shooting digital. Dumped all my Hasselblad and Nikon/Canon/Leica 35mm for a Canon D30, soon followed by a D60 and 1DS/1DS2 Canon. A business associate convinced me that I should go digital… I tossed it up for a few days and went for it. Best decision ever. My profit quadrupled and I made a ton of cash (enough to buy a house). Did very well for a number of years before the rest of the World caught up. All of a sudden… everyone was a pro. I closed the door to my main street studio and never looked back. I knew others who tried to hang on… for a while… and failed. One very well known successful shooter, right up there, drove around in a top end Porsche. Yea, well he was so attached to the idea of pushing through the downturn that he kept pouring cash into the studio to keep the door open. He lost it all… bankrupt.
Anyhow… the price of the gear back then … 🤯 I just bought the M3 Max MacBook Pro for $500 more than what the equivalent cost 22 years ago!!! Aussie dollars BTW.
