I'm just curious where everyone goes when they need to sell their machines? I have had no luck on eBay as every time I post anything on their I typically get scam after scam attempting to lure me into false agreements.

I really like Swappa. Easy and secure for both buyer and seller.

I've sold a few Macs over the years on eBay, but not in a while. My feedback rating is pretty high and I've been a member for a long time so I think that helps.

I've always used eBay (which I've used for many years, and I reject practically all arrangements that don't use its intended mechanisms properly). I've gotten some decent money and some okay money, but almost no odd endings. I'd probably try Craigslist if there was nothing like eBay.

Used Best Buy to upgrade my old iPods when they had up-to $150 off with a trade-in,
haven't seen it since Apple stopped updating iPods,
& they used to have $500 off & other discounts with new Mac products,
but now they mainly have the 3rd party assessments:
http://tradein.bestbuy.ca/bb/
https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/trade-in-program.aspx

but our Best Buy had the best deals;
(we used to have Future Shop here, too, which was later bought by Best Buy)

...there is also an auction site I have used to buy. everything starts at $1

I'd only use Craigslist or similar like OfferUp. Cash only, local only.

- If they want to meet somewhere. I'll only go as far as my closest coffee shop. Too many flakes don't show up.
- If it's a large item or something which can't be checked without plugging in to power. I'll open my garage and set something up for them to test.

I’ve used Craigslist once or twice, generally though I use my computers until they are about dead so they aren’t worth selling.

I've had good experiences on eBay too. I'm just careful to very carefully photograph the computer and describe everything very clearly. It also helps to pay attention to people's feedback ratings. I've rejected bids from people who were too new or had mixed feedback.

Last year i was trying to sell a iPhone 6, mint condition and never used. I would get great legitimate bids, and then during the last 20 seconds of the auction someone would come in and out bid them all for like 2000 dollars. Then I’d immediately get a scam email saying they can pay me out of eBay’s site. I’d always reject of course, and try to contact the next best bid but it’d never work out. So I’ve kind of soured on eBay. Now I have a Mac Book pro 2017 to move. Ive been a mac rumors user for years but dont post much so i only have about 70 posts (and you need 250 to be able to sell on the Mac Rumors marketplace.) I may just pay the $25 dollar yearly fee as I think that also gets you access to the market place.

Yeah, FWIW, I sold a couple of computers on the marketplace here. The transactions went ok, as far as I got paid as arranged. But I'd also caution that the people who frequent these forums can also be the pickiest customers for your used Mac gear you'll find anywhere!

I remember when I sold my Mac Pro tower here, years ago, the buyer asked me a million questions and waffled back and forth on pulling the trigger and paying for it, after saying he wanted it initially. I think only two weeks later, he posted a complaint that there was something or other it didn't do well and he regretted his purchase -- thinking a different system would have been smarter to buy instead. I mean, "Too bad, so sad." for him, in the sense I delivered exactly what I promised I'd sell and the sale was final. But it's stressful and frustrating when you have to keep fielding so many questions or providing additional photos because someone is so anal.

I sold one on Swappa, and it was a nightmare. I think the next time, I'll go through craigslist.

Craigslist, only for cash of course. Sold my 2017 macbook Pro 13 inch last week for 800 bucks(Going to upgrade to the newest one) of course I always have that fear of the money being counterfeit even though its ridiculous to think that..but the money looks good..800 bucks(All in 100 dollar bills with the blue strip) if this is fake cash its the best looking fake cash Ive ever seen..going to deposit it in the bank this week :) Always meet in a public place, I always do the meet ups at the local mall or Starbucks

Why? I've never had an issue with Swappa in 5 years.
Why? I suspect the buyer changed his mind and said it wasn't working. In getting it back, the computer worked exactly how I expected it too, and unlike what he reported. He said the trackpad wasn't working, but It was (and is) working flawlessly. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

the Apple trade in program is actually offering me 1455 for my machine which is way more than I would have thought they would. It's probably worth a bit more than that on the resale market but that offer is tempting.

I usually use Cash For Your Mac. I actually just sold my X to them, and have sold several other items before. I feel they offer pretty fair pricing. Anymore lately I hate dealing with other people when it comes to sales.

Awww. Wish I had seen that! Looking to buy a MacBook now and prices are way high, that was a bargain for your buyer!

I tend to keep devices for 3-4 years. After that time, it's tough to get any significant value by selling through any venue, so I usually give my older devices to family or friends who need them. They get much more benefit than I would by getting a few bucks by selling.
