I keep the desktop in the office/study. I have the MacBook if I need it anyplace else.

Hmm, I was just wondering because 'they' say that a computer/mac/pc should be kept in a 'whole family' room, such as a lounge, but I know that what's 'best' isn't necessarily the easiest to achieve.

I personally would like to have a study (I haven't yet) so the laptop is on the dining room table, but when the time comes I should like a Mac, and put it in a nice little study (butI don't want children doing things they shouldn't - not that I'm a great example of interent moderation myself!).

Expanding it a little, could a Mac recieve tv signals/digital etc and therefore make the ordinary telly obsolete? We could just have a Mac in the living room then.

I wouldn't think of any other room then the lounge.

Is it not a little unsociable having it in another room. At least when i'm on the computer the other half can watch tv and still talk to me.

Yes, I think it could be very divisive - if the machine were used a lot, which is certainly the case here, if in another room to the main family activites. It's finding space in the lounge for it that's the problem here.

I bought a 24" iMac for my livingroom. It's used as my main HDTV (with help from Elgato's EyeTV tuner) and my audio and web entertainment system. It's plenty big enough for my livingroom. I do not have any physical TV's in home, everything is run on computers.

In the living room! Everyone likes my pictures I use for the wallpaper/screensaver. Also my living room is my guitar playing room, so with GarageBand and various music software I have on my iMac, it works out great for me!

With you guys who have the mac in the living room/tv/picture viewing, how do you arrange the kit? You presumably have to have a shelf for keyboard and mouse, and the mounting height for a computer screen is presumably different from that for a tv?

Do you have a specially-built unit of furniture?
