I downloaded it once for my iPad, and then again when I got my new iPhone (didn't offer the option to restore from a backup, only as a new phone...)

So, I've downloaded it twice. The thing is 700MB or something. Where does it live? Or does it delete itself after it updates the device? I saw a couple of older iPad updates in the trash, but not the iOS5 file.

Just curious.

Cool, thanks. Found both updates. (iPad and iPhone)

A Gig and a half. Any benefit in keeping them? If I do a "restore" at some point, will it use those files?

Or can I free up space and delete 'em?

With iOS 5, you dont need those anymore.

If you ever want to restore your iDevice, you can do it directly from the device.

Settings> General> Reset> Erase all content and settings (this is the same thing as a restore from iTunes)
