iPod Where does the Album Artwork get saved?

When using "Get album artwork" for adding artwork to an album where does it get saved on the computer?

If it is downloaded, it gets saved in the Album Artwork folder in your iTunes library location. Anything pasted into a file is saved in the file itself.

How do you paste the Album Artwork into a file?

Drop it (or paste it) into the Artwork pane in the lower left corner of the iTunes interface.

As long as you're just using iTunes for your media, the artwork saved in a seperate folder shouldn't be a big deal. If you have a massive music library it'll save gigabytes in space compared to inserting the artwork into every individual mp3/aac file. Some of those artwork files downloaded from iTunes are anywhere from 100kb to 800kb.

That said, if you copy the music file somewhere else or want to use it with a different music organizing program, the artwork won't be there.

I think for the small amount of space the artwork takes up compared to the size of the audio file, say 50-100k, you might as well attach it into the audio file itself. It's going to be around 1% of your storage isn't it?

Then you're future-proofed if you ever want to use another system, serve the files to a different type of player, put them on a phone, etc, etc.
