Where does the falty Mac´s go???

Ive just had a replacement Imac do to a faulty display and I have sent 3 other macs back for a replacement during the last 5 years.



Question: does anybudy know what happens to the "dead on arrival" Macs we send back...?

Is there a secret Mac cemetery somewhere out there.. Does Apple use the parts for other macs...

Depends what makes it dead. Most DOAs are probably logic board failures, so they probably pull the ram and hard drives out and test them to go in new macs or refurbished macs.

They probably repair them, use iKlear to wipe them down, spray some "new Apple smell" perfume back on them, and pack them into boxes again to sell as new.

You'd never know.

A faulty Mac could be due one of a million possibilities, most being very easy to fix. That possibility exists in every product bought. As an ex-factory worker I've seen how the "bottom line" affects the "push" for parts to go out the door. While this may have little to do with the manufacturer of the end product in question's integrity the possibilty still exists. What has been sent back with a very minor problem (although every case is different) could easily be fixed and thus resold.

Refurbished ibook purchase

I am a first timer with Mac and planning to buy an ibook G4 from Apple online store. I saw a link to refurbished apple items where i found an ibook that suits my requirements. But before i take a plung into my first ever refurbished item and first ever mac, i want to know if anybody bought a refurbished ibook from apple and how was the experience. I am not too sure what will be the condition of the item when i recieve it. Apple claims that they ship well tested refurbished items and give all the accessories and software in the box. Well that is expected from apple but wanted to know somebody's personal experience. Primary reason to buy refurbished ibook is that I am saving as much as the cost of an ipod video. Any thoughts......?

the refurb macs (or refurb anything else), in my opinion, are often a better choice. of course the cost is lower, but it also means that they've been looked at for quality by a heck of a lot more people than the new products were checked by. at a reputable company, you might even have a better chance of not getting a DOA product by getting a refurb.

I just received a 15" PB refurbished from apple. It comes in a special refurbished box (brown cardboard, not the nice pretty boxes of the new powerbooks) (i guess that way you dont turn around and sell it as new for a higher price) But yes, all of the accessories that are normally included are included with the referb. I am still a little skeptical of the quality of the machine though. the case and screen on mine look fine. no scratches, no signs of wear. the only problems i have are with the keyboard and the fan. the keyboard is uneven and makes funny sounds when you press certain keys, as if the keyboard wasnt completely installed properly. the second problem i have is when the processor starts getting busy and the fan kicks on to cool it off more, it makes a clicking sound. these are really little things, and ive had it for a week and it hasnt been worth my time to call apple and ask them about it. but overall im pretty satisfied b/c i got a really really good deal!!!!
