Where have phone favourites and contacts gone?

Recently installed iOS17 on an iPhone 12 mini and having issues with contacts.

1) favourites and contacts no longer in the phone app (see screenshot). Only recents, keypad and voicemail are now displayed.
2) all numbers listed in recents are displaying the full phone number rather than the contact name (all are in my contacts). I have tried turning off and on iCloud contacts but it hasn’t resolved this issue.

Has anyone come across this, and know how to fix? Assume issue #1 is a conscious decision made for iOS17? Very frustrating as I don’t use the contacts app, preferring just to open the phone to access favourites and contacts if needed.

Neither issue happening for me. I have all 5 options across the bottom (Favourites, Recents, Contacts, Keypad, Voicemail) and the call list in Recents shows names etc.

Is it possible you have no Favorites set? Perhaps they hide that tab when there are none.
