So, can anyone give me some insight into where Intel is going in the next year or two in regards to their mobile processors? I've read that Penryn is slated for release in January. When will the next great leap come for Macbook Pros?
Penryn is big! A change from a 65nm to 45nm process improves performance and decreases heat. However, the major change will come in 2 years after they release the new platforms and move to the 32nm process which will lower power usage by chips, decrease heat, improve performance and integrate new technologies like USB 3.0 and the new version of firewire ontop of new connection tools. Now is a fine time to buy laptops as when you will be looking for a new machine (2-3 years from now on average with laptops) the new systems and new technologies will be standard.
