The first version of Keynote went out about 2 years ago. It was a real promissing hit software, much better than powerpoint in regards of graphic issue.

Now, 2 years later, not even a SINGLE rumors about a major upgrade. Lot of people out there, including me, have take the keynote challenge.

I've try to sell this software in my office. My partners were very impressed at first.

But the software really need a couple of new feature rapidly or it will be surpassed by others apps real soon.

Please apple, there is lot of people outhere waitin for that upgrade!

Unfortunately, Apple does a lot of things at once, and products don't get updated as frequently or with as many features as they should. It's an incredible feat that Apple manages to do as much as they do, considering how few employees they have.

Why does an application have to be updated regularly to be useful? I use Keynote and I don't see anything wrong with it. I think they got it right the first time. I don't see anything wrong with AppleWorks either. It looks old but it functions just fine.

more themes/transitions/stock images and better powerpoint compatibility (especially with non-web graphics) would be a nice upgrade. Im sure there are other features that people would like to see too.

To be honest, PowerPoint is the only alternative and even the new 2004 edition is way behind Keynote 1.0 in terms of effects and presentation. It would be nice for them to add a few more things to Keynote such as scatter graphs (both axes variable) but then you can just create that in Excel or something, and import in as an image. You generally don't need to edit anything during a presentation.

Most people are still wowed by Keynote because PowerPoint's effects and compositing (particualarly on the PC) are so poor. You can't even get nice text in it.

An update to Keynote may be on the horizon but the competition could do with catching up first. ;)

A Keynote update may wait until Tiger, but with all the fancy Core Image tools available under that revision of the OS, we might get some very nice new goodies with Keynote.

My main complaint about Keynote is a lack of animation tools.

I would love an update to Keynote, its a great program. But i think we will have to wait until after Tiger has been released to see an update. The reason being is that after Tiger, apple is going to slow down on the releases for the OS. This then gives the people over at apple to focus on other software than just the OS and new releases

my #1 gripe with keynote is the lack of custom presentations.

in powerpoint i can build a big set of slides and select a small portion of the slides for a custom presentation - leaving the original slide set intact - but in keynote i have to make a "custom built" presentation file that is separate from the original file. for example, say, i have 100 slides that are somehow related to the same subject. i am asked to present a 5 minute briefing. in powerpoint i make a custom slideshow selecting slides 5,26,53,71,89,99 and will be able to arrange the order of slides to be displayed, and save the custom slideshow in case i need to make that same briefing again. in keynote, well, wanting to leave the 100 slide master set intact, i will have to copy the slides to a new presentation, which takes its time.

custom slideshows are useful. i want apple to implement those to keynote. that could however be done in 1.x release should apple want to address my issue ;)

---

another great idea i have submitted to apple is called "live presentation". imagine having that 100 slide master set handy, and having a "projector" area in some corner of the display. you could drag slides to that projector area whenever you want from whatever you have available, and that slide would then be displayed via the projector after it's dropped to the projector area. one would also be able to compose new slides on the computer while some other slide is being displayed via the projector.

this can naturally be done with projector video freeze function, but it would rock if apple implemented that kind of a behaviour to the software. it is after all much easier to control keynote than to control a projector. and not all projectors do freeze, so that would be really nice to have in keynote.

...and hyperlinks, and the ability to create a larger variety of printed handouts.

Keynote is great, it has many graphical advantages over PP, but there are some basic features missing IMHO.

I have been waiting incredulously for the 2.0 update.

Now I think we'll see it next year with Tiger. It'll leap ahead using the new Tiger technologies. Plus, it's a nod in Redmond's direction not releasing Keynote in the year of Office.

But honestly, who the hell knows what Apple is thinking?

also waiting...and waiting...an

We adaopted Keynote early into our presentation workflow for prospective clients that we show each week, and I must admit that I love this program. However one of the biggest missing features that I have been waiting for is audio to play throughout the whole presentation. Better iTunes integration would be huge. It really sux playing a song that was created in Garage Band and only have it play on each single slide.

We have been waiting for this update for a long time now. Two years ago it rocked, now Powerpoint has regained the lead.

Keynote 2.0 not happening soon

I wouldn't be surprised if Apple and MS struck a deal that Apple is not to release new versions of competing products (i.e Apple Works and Keynote) for some time after the release of Office 2004. As for AW, I'm not sure if Apple is still committed to its office suite. They didn't improve TextEdit for nothing. Nowadays, they're more into digital life. Apple had better use its resources fore more useful things than maintaining (or redesigning) an office suite just for the sake of it. Whether you like MS or not, Office 2004 is a great product and for those who want to go without MS products, there's still OOO.

My biggest request is for better control over multiple animation builds on the same slide.

At the moment, you can have an effect build on a slide either automatically or by clicking. But what about subsequent builds on the same slide? They have to be revealed manually. PPT 2004 allows great control over slide builds (don't flame me - if I could use Keynote for 100% of my presos then I would).

Also:
Does anyone know a keyboard shortcut for increasing/decreasing font size? Having to go to the Font window each time is a real pain!
