Why not try out Windows Vista for free?

Take a look here.

why would you use xp home on a mac
Why not? If you don't connect to a domain, require fine control over your ACLs or need encrypted network or file systems there really is no difference between Pro and Home.

Most people who want to run Windows on a Mac will use it for games, most of which will not use any of Pros unique features.

fair enough I use mine for those adv features and never even considered home because it never would have fulfilled those needs

Are you sure you can install Vista without XP? I was unable to do so.
Yes, you can. I don't know what problems you were having, but it installed with no problems on my iMac, both using Boot Camp and the latest Parallels build.

Now, the question is, do I keep it? I've booted into it only once. I don't really see any reason for dedicating 20GB to it.

I bought retail version of XP Home SP2 but a recent Uncrate review suggested the OEM version of XP Pro (I expect the same would apply to Home) - "It's the same exact software, only without the big box".

Anyone know a downside to this?
