Does anyone know of a program that will transfer your audio clips to the phone as an sms alert?

I'm trying to manually SSH into the phone and create my own SMS tone, but it work work.

I entered sms-received1.caf for my custom tone and now the default "Tri-tone" sound won't make any noise when I tap on it.

/System/Library/Audio/UISounds/

To make your own tones save your file as a .aiff file and then change the extension to .caf. Be sure to backup the original UISounds.

I don't understand It's not working...

I took my file called sms-received1.caf and replaced it in the folder UISounds and now my Tri-Tone doesn't make any noise when I tap it.

What did I do wrong?

You probably didn't restart your phone, or the format of the file is incorrect.

You need to take an aiff and rename it to whatever.caf for it to work. AIFF being the most important part there.

Right now I have a file called sms-received1.caf. I just opened it up in itunes to make sure the audio file was readable. It was.

I opened my SSH program and dragged it here -

It replaced the original sms recieved 1 tone, but nothing happens after I reset my phone and click on "Tri-Tone".

You can even see the date says 9/29/08 under the tab Modified. So I know it did change... but why won't it play? It works in itunes and it IS the right format.

It's quite simple:

1. Take an AIFF and rename it to sms-received1.caf (make sure it's not .caf.aiff, right click -> get info will show you the whole name).
2. Replace file on phone.
3. Restart phone or restart the Springboard.

If one of those steps is not followed, it will not work.

Was the file saved as an aiff before you changed the extension to caf?

I don't think so. I just renamed the extension. I'm guessing thats the problem?

It was just an mp3 before hand.

I'll try those steps TheGeneral, thanks.

Ok I got it!

I'm trying to replace my new-mai.caf file as well, but here's the error I'm getting.

SSH Error, Can not rename file.

The thing is, the name is exactly the same as what's in there. new-mail.caf
