I have a cracked display and have been considering removing the glass. The only video I've seen on YouTube shows a guy using heat and a spatula of sorts, seemingly indicating that there's bonding material across the entire display. It doesn't make a lot of sense to me for Apple to have put a layer of something between the actual display and the glass, but what the heck do I know? The problem with this video is that it doesn't indicate if this was a working display or a dead one that he didn't care about. It doesn't look like the method would be overly friendly to the panel.

The bottom of mine where some glass actually separated, having broken into smaller pieces in a mat form like safety glass, seems to show a ring of adhesive around the edge. I'm not pulling any farther to test the theory that this is all there is, as the screen is usable right now, if not optimal.

However, I have no issue going commando and using it without the glass if it is possible to remove without destroying the actual panel. If anyone has any knowledge or links to it, I'd appreciate it.

In case you were wondering how this happened. The red tape I used after upgrading failed when the iMac was accidentally tilted forward. If you use the same tape, use two layers so it's thick enough to actually form a solid bond between the display and case. Or use something else. Unfortunately, I was a day away from redoing this one with that double-up method. Sigh.
