Hello, I'm using iPhoto that came with my new imac 27. When I'm cropping a photo, and double-clicking the image, it replaces the original with the cropped one, without an undo option! how can I get the original back?

another thing, when I upload photos (for example to facebook), where is the folder of my iphoto photos?

Thanks!

HighLight the photo you want to restore (the photo itself, not the whole batch of photos) and while the picture is highlighted go to the menu item 'Photos' and select 'Revert to Original'. Then you are done.

Hi Killwin98,

Your original images are stored in the iPhoto Library in a subdirectory named Masters. Your images are organized in subfolders of Masters by year, month, date, and then a time stamped subfolder. For instance, you might have a folder named:
Code:
/Users/<yourusername>/Pictures/iPhoto Library.photolibrary/Masters/2013/01/21/20130121-094140/
that contains images that you uploaded to iPhoto at 9:41am on Jan 21, 2013.

Hope this helps,
Switon

Why is it so complicated? I would like to upload/attach a photo to gmail, but I can't click on the iPhoto Library because it's greyed out. I thought mac would be more friendly...

Hi Killwin98,

I think I may have misunderstood your question, sorry. I thought you wished to know where the originals are located. But you wish to attach the photo to an email message. I believe this can be done using the Share menu (top menu bar) of iPhoto itself. Highlight the photo you wish to share, then pull down the Share menu and select how you wish to share it (Photo Stream, Messages, email, Flickr, Facebook, Twitter). If you would like you can also set your desktop background from the "Share" menu and if you would like to copy the photo to a different location, then you can "Export..." it to a different location and change its encoding if you want.

Good luck,
Switon

If you are using Gmail in a browser the easiest way (I believe) is to open iPhoto, select the picture and then go to the File menu and Export it to the desktop. From there you can attach the photo in Gmail and then delete the picture from your desktop. I think that is easier and safer than looking for the original file.

Another option if you will be doing it frequently is to set up the Apple Mail program to connect to Gmail and in iPhoto Preferences General tell iPhoto to send photos via Mail (using the Share menu described above). There is an option in iPhoto to send directly from iPhoto without using Apple Mail but in my experience it did not consistently work well. I use the Apple Mail program only for sending from iPhoto and use Gmail in Safari for everything else I do with email.

Just so the OP is clear on this, STAY OUT OF THE IPHOTO DIRECTORY! Unless you have a VERY good idea of what you're doing, you'll never need to go there.

As for exporting photos, the option you usually want us "Current". This will export your photo with all the changes you've made with whatever format your photo is in (like JPEG).

And remember: Assign your Faces, Places, Keywords, and Ratings when you add photos to iPhoto. Trying to remember all that stuff later can be difficult.

IMO, the quickest way to upload a file when your're in gmail is to click the gmail attachment icon (or the photo icon) and then click 'Choose File'.

When the window opens to find your file, scroll down on the left side and click on Photos. You can then quickly get to your iPhoto and Photo Booth pictures.

Thanks -- I wasn't aware of that possibility. I had tried something similar but clicked "Pictures" under Favorites rather than "Photos" under Media and that approach did not allow me to drill down to a picture.

No problem!

Another way, if you already have iPhoto/Aperture opened to the picture you want, is when you click 'Choose File' in Safari (which causes the Finder window to open), just drag the picture from iPhoto and drop it in the Finder window.

This will cause Finder to automatically go to the folder where the picture actually is, and highlight the picture. You just click 'Choose', and it should upload your photo.

For me, when I'm uploading a picture that's buried deep in my iPhoto/Aperture library, doing it this way is usually quicker.
