Every once in awhile I am in Safari surfing the web, moving the cursor, and this type of screen pops up! I don't know what it is I am doing to cause it, though sometimes I am using the pinch gesture on the track pad. I believe the two images of my search screen show me that I had been looking at those sites, but I haven't been looking at the one on the far right (too small on the screen now for me to name it). What I would like to do, when these screens are up, is to delete the ones that I am not currently using in any tab; but I can't! Don't know how.

It looks like Safari Tab Overview. Click the button in the upper right (looks like stacked pages) of the Safari browser.

It’s the tab overview and you get to it by pinching out (zooming out)... How are you a Macrumors regular???

Here's a page from the "Safari User Guide" on using tabs in Safari:

Found it by googling: mac safari tab view

There's a link at the bottom for "Arrange tabs in Safari on Mac" and another for "Close tabs in Safari on Mac".

You might want to read more of that Safari User Guide, because it identifies and describes many things in Safari. I also recommend practicing some of the things it describes, rather than just reading about them.

Thank you very much for the link? Didn't know there was a Safari User Guide! And agree on practicing! Can't get some of the tabs to close - yet!

You might also want to go into System Preferences > Trackpad and review all the various gestures and options. There may be gestures that are active that you have no desire to use.
Thanks! Forgot about that, and there were several that I decided to remove.

I have been reading and practicing, but there is still one thing that escapes me. In my earlier screenshot, the three tab/screen that show to the left are proving beyond me to delete. There is no "x" in their respective bar, though there is an "x" in the bars of the others (except for the gray one with the big cross). I have followed the alternative instructions to control click, then delete, but nothing gets rid of them. Or to prevent them from appearing in the first place. Please, what am I missing?

The three tabs "on the left" are probably Pinned (there's not a way to see this in Tab Overview). Leave the Tab Overview. Pinned tabs are the square buttons-with-icons on the far left-hand side of the Tabs bar. Right-click on the Tabs in question, you'll see an option to Unpin. (The idea behind Pinning is to make a tab semi-permanent).

As to the "gray one with the big cross," I presume you mean "gray one with the big + symbol" - that's the Create a New Tab "button" (an awfully big button). You can't get rid of it, any more than you can get rid of the "+" in the far right of the Tab Bar.

Thank you! That is absolutely what happened! At some point I had unintentionally pinned those sites without realizing it. Just unpinned them and problem went away!
