Im looking to buy a new powermac g5. I am not planning on buying the very tip top model, but if you can help me I would really appriciate it.

I like to buy direct from Apple as I qualify for educational prices, but Amazon is a good place to get one from also. They offer rebate and no sales tax to a lot of places, so you can save a lot that way too.
If you are concerned about returns, then look for a local place that has a 14-30 day "no questions asked" 100% refund. Local to me is a place - ABT Electronics that I will buy my MacBook Pro from if I ever get around to it. That way, if there is any problem with the whine, stuck pixels or anything else, I can walk back in and either get a refund or an exchange no problems.

Buy your extra RAM 3rd party from a reputable vendor like OWC, Crucial or Datamem.
If you are entitled to the education, developer, government or corporate
discounts you definitely want to buy directly from Apple.
You are also much safer buying a late model refurb from Apple rather than risking the used market on eBay.
