Where should I buy an iMac 27 inch from?

In about a week, I'm going to be getting an iMac 27 i5. I don't know where to get it from, though. If I bought it from Apple, I would be able to get it for around $2040 with my student discount and tax. If I got it from Amazon, it would be about $80 less. However, it's not in stock at Amazon.

My main concern is not really the price, but the quality of the screen that I'll get. If there's a problem, I'd like to be able to return it easily, as well.

Are there other sites that are good? How is Mac Connection?

Avoid mac connection! They have terrible service and it's a pain to deal with them.

If you buy direct from Apple you can go back to the Apple Store if you have a problem.

If you buy from 3rd party, and it's DOA out of the box, you have to go back to the 3rd party to get it fixed. MacConnection won't immediately replace it like Apple would.

Agree. 'Bought mine from MacConnection and Apple had no problems addressing my problems. I even got a swap at an Apple store when the Genius decided it was easier for both of us rather than repairing the issues I had. The warranty is between you and Apple, not the reseller.

Sorry you had problems with MacConnection. This is my third iMac purchase from them and always had good service from them.

Apple will fix the problem even if you buy from a reseller. It just won't do straight refunds or exchanges unless there's a problem (see reply to previous comment).
 
Where to buy?

We have bought macs from Apple, Mac Mall, Best Buy, and probably elsewhere. We've settled on MacMall now because they have been very easy to work with and we save on sales tax vs. a local store or Apple. We've bought at least 5 from MacMall.

Our experience is that the support from Apple isn't really dependent on where you buy new) assuming it's an authorized dealer. However, it can vary a bit if you find you have to deal with a "store" in some cases. Buying local may provide some advantage depending on what kind of issue or service requirement you might have - if you ever have one. All our macs but one have been bullet proof. We are having an issue with our new iMac 27 i7, and everyone at MacMall and Apple have been helpful.
 
Another one of these questions?

Do these questioned seriously need to be asked over and over? Go to what is most convieniet for you... If you wanna be able to return buy from apple and not worry about shipping back to amazon. Dis you really need to aak?
 
Online store returns

Can those who have ordered from uk online apple store and had to return give me a bit if info, I've read a courier will pick up any returns, is this easy and how much of a time slot can you specify?

I'm interested as I'm thinking about ordering i5 in a few weeks online. I've had from store both earlier builds with problems and it's a pain lugging them to and from apple store and figure will get a more recent batch online. Just want to know if I do need to return from the online store it's not too much hassle. Also if it needs a warranty repair after 2 weeks can you take it to the store? Any advice appreciated
