Where THE GLASS?

And I'm not referring to the screen! Where the hell is glass touchpad? If there is one thing that really makes a difference between Apple and everyone elseit's the damn glass touchpad and really good multitouch. It's just really nice to use, especially when you don't want / don't have the mouse around.

Now, even the plastic Macbook got itself some glass. And MBA still didn't!

I kind of think MBA isn't the greatest laptop (since it's not very versatile), but I am kind of tempted to buy one. Should fit my use pattern nicely -> sit in Starbucks, drink coffee, read research papers and write some code! And the nice experience of multitouch + glass is what would make this convenient.

Odd. It baffles me.

On the side: It's funny how Apple seems to be loosing consitency. Some screens are 16:10, now iMacs are 16:9; some laptops have the glare... er... glass, some don't. It's not even a matter of options -> there simply is no "base" for all of those computers ;-)

I honestly don't see what the big deal with the glass trackpad is. Doesn't even make a big difference for me. I take it from you saying it's not the greatest laptop and your stated usage, I don't think it's the right laptop for you.

I on the other hand, think it's the best fkn laptop eveR!

I don't think its so much a lose of consistency as it is more of a change in their future offerings. I fully expect the next round of Display updates to be right around the corner and I'm sure they'll all follow the 16:9 ratio. Possibly screens in 21.5", 27" and 32" while dropping the 24" model. Although that last part is just a shot in the dark.

As far as the glass / matte options on the screen, thats all it is, just an option. I'm sure Apple would love to have them all glass displays (especially since that's all they offered for a brief while on some of their laptops), but some users demanded a matte option.

As far as the glass trackpad is concerned, I have no doubt at all that Apple plans on adding it to the MacBook Air, they're just waiting for the next refresh to do so. Although I don't ever plan on purchasing one, I'd like to see them add a few new features to help justify its high price point.

I kind of fancy the button. No complaints at all about the trackpad and I even move between a glass and the MBA quite a bit.

When the MBA gets the glass trackpad and similar battery life to the MBP I will be back to using one.

The glass trackpad is way better then the button.

the engineering and r&d in the current mba dates back probably as far back as 2005/2006.

the engineering behind the glass pad currently used likely dates back to 2007, which is already nearly three years old.

the next air will have it.

Why? I prefer the MBA's setup - multitouch plus button. There's something about having no clear button that makes dragging feel alien. It works how it should, it just throws you off a bit. I like the button being there.

I use tap-to-click totally on my MBA, and never use the button at all. The MBA trackpad feels and works great for me, and I have no big desire for the glass one.
