I just picked up a Samsung 470 SSD and 1TB HDD. I would like to upgrade my 2011 Mini but not sure where to get the necessary parts. I would prefer to buy the entire kit from iFixit, but I they always seem to be on back order. Has iFixit been shipping these items after they originally release the kit? Are there any other sources for the necessary parts?

Thanks
Mike

No one has bought this cable from another vendor? I thought a lot of people were upgrading their minis. Would buy it from iFixit but they have been out of stock for awhile. Would like to get the complete kit instead of just the cable to make sure the drives are properly installed. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

If it's just the cable you want, just go to welovemacs.com and get it there. The price is steep but they have them in stock. I tried to order the kit weeks ago from ifixit but had my order canceled because they ran out of stock. I decided to just get the cable and my installation went fine. I haven't had any issues.

I think this is the part you need. There was a thread that linked to it a couple of weeks back - might be worth searching for it.

I got the cable from Powerbook Medic. They were the only ones with a reasonable price. $35 shipped. Others wanted double that with the shipping.

But you said you wanted the kit, not just the cable. No one else sells that BS kit... because the hex screws are probably 2 cents for all 4, the grommets another $1 and that tool, which is the biggest cash grab since Apple RAM is just a bent rod worth all of a nickel. The screw driver kit is nice but you can get those at any hardware store for $10 and I imagine everyone would already have their own. So if you want to spend $70 + tax and shipping, that's on you.

But you can get the grommets from Home Depot (1/4") and the screws are M3 0.5 fine thread ~6". I pieced it together without much effort. You can check out the respective post here.

Next time do a search (I found it using "mac mini second hard drive").
