I figure this crowd might know, I need some new batteries for a few white polys. The amazon cheepos suck and don't last. I don't care about the cost but I want a quality OEM like battery. Anyone have ideas?

Not really an answer, but do not buy OWC/NewerTech. They cost 3x the cheap Chinese ones and are no better quality -- mine lasted under a year, and they refused to replace it. I was extremely disappointed since their stuff is normally solid (albeit overpriced).

Hoping for a good answer too, since I'm currently running my MacBook7,1 on the adapter 100% of the time, and that's not going to work when my school returns to in-person lectures this winter.

I guess they could be harder to find as more and more people will have moved on to newer machines by now and the market of still working machines shrinking and shrinking.

Probably the non-retina 2012 MBPs would be the sweet spot for repairability these days for Mac laptops and even they are approaching ten years old now.

Next best after the 2012s would probably be the 2015 as that's the last to have replaceable SSDs.

Thanks for the warning! I've never purchased anything from OWC because they've always seemed overpriced and after reading this, I'll steer well clear because to me, it's extremely poor business practice if a brand new electronic item fails within less than 12 months and the retailer refuses to provide a replacement.

I bought a battery for my 7,1 on Amazon and it has made it about a year, and its starting to lose capacity, its a Simplo too so I had higher hopes. I really need some new batteries for my 2,1 and 5,2 as well.

I always buy my laptop batteries at OWC and have never had a problem and they always work great & last a long time.

My 2 cents…

Yeah, I suspect mine was defective. However, after they refused to admit that lasting 15 minutes at 300 cycles was abnormal, I'm not about to spend $80 on another.

I'm sure most people will be fine buying OWC, but just wanted to warn people that their policy for defective hardware is apparently "tough luck, here's a 10% discount on a new one".

(Also, if you want further proof of how broken mine is -- 2.5 years after purchase, the reported capacity has looped from under 100 mAh to 65000 mAh, manufacture date got reset to 1970, and it turns off at 100% within a minute of being unplugged.)

U.K.
After the familiar experience of amazon batteries, the last battery I bought was from ifixit. Seems close to Apple build quality and I get a good 2hrs on my '07 MBP. Don't know if they do poly batteries but might be worth a look.

I think the answer is that you're not going to find a battery as good as the original. Specifically, replacements for the plastic Macbooks are made poorly from what I've seen (fit, finish and strength of plastic). The battery packs inside are

Since they're about $25 at Amazon I guess you have to think, "I can buy four or five over time for the same money I would have paid for an original."

There was supposed to be more to this sentence?
Yes!

"…likely hit or miss, also."

My own experience is…I ordered a replacement for a 2008 unibody MacBook from Amazon and it died in 3 weeks (got a refund). A different one ordered after that was pretty good but got down to about an hour of life within a couple of years…although after 4 years total it's still like that.

Anyone tried one of these?

While I bought a slightly different one (for MacBook7,1) this is the seller/manufacturer I warned about above. Completely garbage product and support. Personally I would avoid it.
