I am interested in buying a used iBook or Powerbook, haven't really decided yet. I looked at Gainsaver, but saw all the negative reviews on this site, and decided not to go with them. So has anyone had GOOD experiences buying used? Where do you recommend?

eBay or Craigslist, if you can find someone that isn't suspicious. You can go directly with Apple, though they charge quite a bit. If you can - check your local university. A lot of them have leftover new iBooks and Powerbooks that are going for around $800 or less. You'd have to find someone to buy it for you though since you most likely have to be a student to buy the computer from the campus.

if you are anywhere near a compusa go check them out. Go onto compusa.com and click the locations tab. Find ur state then closest store and click the inventory list of blowout items. A few places around here in dallas have had MBP's and the last generation ibook. The ibook is only $899 MINUS another 25% off of the clearance items. That would be ur best bet and u can even get them brand new for what someone is selling them used for.

Craigslist or eBay are both usually pretty good. For eBay make sure you get someone with plenty of positive feedback (so you know they're legit) and make sure to pay by Paypal, which carries with it some buyer protection if something goes sour.

I would go for a 12 " iBook 1.33 GHz refurb directly from Apple with the full factory warrantry for $799.00
That's wireless, BT, combo drive, scrolling track pad, and very handy to haul around.
You have to watch the refurb pages, but they show up every day or so.
Buying a refurb gets you all the latest OS software and iLife '06.
When you buy used, you may end up with Panther and no iLife suite at all.
The machine will still work fine but you're missing a lot of value.
