Hello! I am looking for a new Mac Mini for my brother to use, and I'm running through different scenarios in my head when it comes to buying one and how much I want to pay.

Option 1) I buy a 2014 and update it to 8 gigs of RAM bringing to total to $600. If I really had to, I'd just stay at 4 gigs and he can live with it for now. He doesn't need to upgrade to i7 or anything.

Option 2) I buy a 2012 refurb with baseline specs and he can upgrade the RAM when he needs to and I save a few bucks, unless they're available. The thing is, I'd like to get this doe ASAP and the Apple Online Store doesn't have any right now. If I were to go this route, do you guys know of any trusted resellers online?

Thanks for your help!

If you're looking for Apple Certified Refurbished products, Apple only sells them online at their refurb store. Many other retailers who sell "refurbished" are really selling "used". Apple refurbs come with the original 1 year warranty and qualify for AppleCare, while many of the other retailers' "refurbs" come with a 90-day warranty.

Apple's refurb inventory changes regularly, sometimes multiple times per day. If you're looking for a particular item, refurb.me can alert you when it becomes available.
