Hello,
I just had another question. I would like to know where you purchase your software from (office 2004 professional, adobe creative suite). I'm looking for both of them and looking for the good deal on mac versions. Sorry for asking so many questions. Once I train and learn mac's I'll start teaching like yourself and be very helpful and supportive on this board :)

Would you qualify for educational discounts? Links for special pricing should be found on Adobe's homepage. For Office, resellers are the best place to look (don't think you can buy direct from MS) - check out Amazon, they may do rebates too. Otherwise, the price is pretty much fixed from dealer to dealer, so I don't think it makes much difference.

Totally agree!

Your school purchasing department should be able to get you the absolute best deals on this kind of software.

IF.... you already own a licensed P/C version of Adobe software,
Adobe will transfer your license to an OSX version at a minimal fee to cover shipping.

You have a higher than average chance of getting pirated / Education version / OEM / unlicensed software on eBay...

Academic software (including Office Student and Teacher version) of Microsoft or Adobe cannot be resold. Neither can site-licensed software.

If you are buying used, you need to ask
Is is full retail version?
With manufacturer's original CD's, with original serial numbers?
Will it come with a transfer of license?
Can it be registered with the mfg. and upgraded?

Even if it is original software, if the previous owner doesn't transfer the license to you (that is, if they have used it to upgrade, or they have kept it or another version of this serial number on their machine) then it is
1) not legal and
2) you will not be able to upgrade it to a newer version

Many academic titles may only be resold to students, teachers or educational institutions. You will need to check their respective EULAs. I know I had to list my academic copy of Microsoft Office X just right on eBay and verify that the person I sold it to was a student. eBay's VeRo group initially shut down my auction for not requiring proof of education affiliation just hours before the auction ended. Many of the bidders on my auction were emailing me and asking if I sold pirated copies, etc. It was a huge mess and very frustrating.

As I posted, Microsoft and Adobe specifically forbid resale of their educational versions, whether you verify the buyer is a student or not.

"Adobe License Transfer

You may, however, transfer all your rights to use the Software to another individual or legal entity provided that: (a) you also transfer (i) this agreement, (ii) the serial number(s), the Software and all other software or hardware bundled, packaged or pre-installed with the Software, including all copies, upgrades, updates and prior versions, and (iii) all copies of font software converted into other formats to such individual or entity;* (b) you retain no upgrades, updates or copies, including backups and copies stored on a computer; and (c) the receiving party accepts the terms and conditions of this agreement and any other terms and conditions under which you purchased a valid licence to the Software. Notwithstanding the foregoing, you may not transfer education, pre-release, or not for resale copies of the Software. "

Microsoft Student and Teacher
"You can't transfer your usage rights to another individual."

Stuck in the middle with you
If you go to a big university, look around there first. I Know students in the wisconsin state system can get adobe creative suite premium for $199, the most amazing price I have ever seen.
