Where to buy Windows for either Fusion or Parallel (Suggestions, best price, etc.)

Just thought that this might be the best place to ask the following:

-Where would you recommend is the best place to buy Vista (In other words, what and where did you find the best price). Want to go with Vista right away so that I don't have to upgrade at a later date. I just need a basic version of Vista. Nothing top end. I need it so that I can run Windows Explorer. Some of the web sites that I have to use for my work REQUIRE it and will NOT work in Safari or FireFox (VERY SAD...and they don't intend on supporting either in the future...so I REALLY have to have this for my work).

-What is the best price you have seen?

Pricewatch.com. It's not like "Deals2buy" I've been searching pricewatch.com and buying stuff from vendors there for the past almost 7yrs and never had a problem with anyone I have bought stuff with.

Some of those prices above are for the upgrade vers so you'll have to do the work of searching.

The OEM software works fine for this purpose and can be bought from Amazon and similar online retailers. Others have argued that this is perfectly legal, and there are no blocks to it being installed.

Personally I'd go for XP though, since you can install IE 7 on it and it is more stable and is likely to be around for a long time yet.

It's also not a resource hog like Vista is.

Whichever place you buy it (and I favor ZipZoomFly.com) get the OEM version. All you lose over the Retail is support and when was the last time you called MS support for the OS? For me it was when I installed Windows 95 over 3.11 Save the money and get OEM.

I was assuming that I would find it for sale on Apples web site since they are promoting that we can use both OS's side by side, but I guess I wasn't to surprised not to find it there. I know I could have found a few different places to buy it as well, but had a feeling that you guys would have a few additional things to say that may also be helpful...and I was right.

Also, beware of the WGA (Winbloze activation BS) triggering in a virtual machine. In Fusion, for example, if you try to activate your OEM serial number and then install the VMW Tools, enough of the hardware changes to trigger WGA and you'll have to navigate the clunky MS system and beg for a re-activation of your serial. So, install VMW Tools and get things finalized in the VM during the 3 day trial before you activate.

I'd also recommend going with XP after having personally run Vista as both a host OS and guest, but technically, Vista will work as long as you're willing to put-up with problems, quirks, and other stupid crap from the 2008 version of Windows ME.
