Where to dispose of 2013 MBP with severely swollen battery.

Hi everyone, I replaced my 2013 MBP with a M1 Pro 14 inch earlier this year, and left my old one to sit as it was broken.

I moved it today, and noticed the battery was very, very swollen on one cell. I had the bottom case already off where it had a logic board failure.

I live in the UK, we have battery bins but I don't think I can drop a whole MacBook into one. Where the battery is the most swollen I have ever seen, I don't want to try and remove the battery myself incase I accidentally puncture it.

So, could anyone point me into the right direction of where to dispose of this? I am thinking of putting it in a bin bag and throwing it in a local bin, but then worry this may be a danger to other people who don't know it is in there.

I’ve lived in several European countries and now call the USA my home. I’ve never lived anywhere that does not have a free procedure for recycling of used consumer electronics. USA, stores, Switzerland, electronics section of city dumps, Italy, city hall, etc. Does that not exist in wherever you are in the UK?

Thank you! Unfortunately I live about an hours drive from the nearest store and don't drive myself, so I will put it somewhere safe for now until I next go to that shopping centre.

I will keep it away from anything flammable in my cement based metal shed, which is mostly empty.

My friend did recommend my local dump, I will have to see if they accept electronics like this but will save me a journey to the apple store as the dump is only 5 minutes away.
