Sign up as a member (free) and choose iPhone as your mobile, you can then import the sounds straight into iTunes.

For SMS sounds, they are controlled by the system so you will need to use something like OpenSSH to replace the files using a computer.

You can convert any ringtone into a .caf file using iTunes.

The problem is you can't put them on the iPhone unless your JB, AFAIK.
