Where to get good additional RAM for MacBook Pro?

At first, I was interested in getting a 2.0 GHz 15.4" MacBook Pro and upgrading to the 2.16GHz processor, 120GB HD, and then later buying another 1GB stick of RAM later, but now that the 17" has the processor and hard drive already upgraded, all I need to do is buy the RAM, but God knows I'd like to pay less than Apple Education's $270 for it. I've looked at MacMall.com mainly, but I was wondering if there's any superior brands to look at and also if there's only a certain "type" to look for. I don't know much about RAM. Also, should I install it myself or could the guys at an Apple Store put it in for me free of charge (maybe if I complain about the computer hum?)?

Searching on MR will come up with lots of threads on RAM recommendations.

IMO the brand of the RAM is not as important as the quality of the seller you buy it from. THe brand name is not a guarantee of compatibility, as the main manufacturers make lots of models of RAM that is not compatible. Generally, Kingston and Crucial (for example) only guarantee compatibility on the specific models of RAM chosen through their machine-specific RAM selectors.

You're looking for a reputable seller who tests and guarantees compatibility with your model Mac, offers a lifetime warranty and a no-cost return if it doesn't work.

Among MR members, Crucial, and if you are in the USA, OWC (MacSales) and Data Memory Systems are most often recommended.

It would not be reasonable to expect the Apple store to install third party RAM for free. But RAM is user installable.

Well I was helping my friend look for MBP ram and I used ramseeker.com to get the RAM (it's cheaper) and I found a stick at Omni Technologies for $72.99 - that's a STEAL, and for 1gb too.
