Where to save

I've been using my ibook g4 for 2 years now and i'm ashamed to ask this question because it's so basic but here it goes: when I am trying to save something (a word document for example) and the save window comes up it only shows a few options (desktop, several recently used folders, etc.). Now usually I just save to the desktop and drag the file to where I want it, but is there an easier way?? Thanks for any replies to this silly question

Look for a little black triangle on the save dialog box. If you click it, it'll toggle between the summary/advanced save window. Once you've clicked it, you'll be able to navigate through every folder on your hard drive (it's similar to the column view in Finder).
