I remember reading somewhere that you could tell where your iMac was built and would ship from. Can someone remind me how to find out that information?
I don't have my iMac yet so I'm not sure what the serial number is. On the Apple store it says that it hasn't shipped yet, but I thought there was some code or product number that showed where the computer was being manufactured and where it would ship from. I would like to know this because if it ships from California it will arrive at my house sooner than if it ships from China.

If the machine is BTO, then it will be shipped from China.
My BTO 27" i5 just shipped from CA. Serial number lookup says built in the US.
Once it ships you can pull the serial number off of the receipt available on the order status webpage.
Thanks for correcting that, maybe as I do not live in the USA, I never noticed that. Where is the factory in California and is it Apple's own or is it a contracted one like Foxconn?
Apple website has said my order is "prepared for shipment" for the last 24 hours. What is the delay!?
My 27" 2.93 that I purchased right from the Apple store said "Assembled in USA" right on the outside of the box. It was not a custom order... just a standard 2.93 i7 that they had in stock.
If they started making all their machines in the US I'd be thrilled. Then when people attack Macs for being expensive we can say "Yeah? Well my computer is made in USA, can you say the same about yours?"
IIRC if 75% of the manufacturing cost is from stuff made in USA it counts as Made in USA, in the case of the Mac Pro that is basically the MoBo, CPU, RAM and CaseAssembled is different from made...
The components are most likely made in China or other parts of Asia
Plus, wouldn't you prefer your delicate electronic components being assembled by people with small fingers rather than those with bigger ones?![]()
