All iPads Where’d the home screen icon go?

For the first couple weeks with my iPad Pro, I was able to use command-tab to switch to any app, including to the home screen, which was represented by an icon of a grid of coloured squares. Now I can’t find it anymore, and googling hasn’t turned up any way to bring it back. It was pretty useful to be able to command-tab to the home screen.

Any hints?

If you hold the CMD key down on the home screen, does the menu of options come up?

Yes, but no option to restore the icon for the home screen to the app-switcher.

A forced restart brought the home screen icon back.
