This is news? I appreciate the discontent and general breast-beating about the desktop refresh cycle, but WWDC is for all Apple Developers, not just MacOS Developers. The product line—right now—that is receiving the bulk of attention because it has the most competitive and rapid development cycle is the mobile side. The product line that has the most growth potential, again, is the mobile side.
Apple is likely being heavily aggressive on the i-side to ensure that line reaches maturity with a sustainable base. The desktop—and to some degree, laptop—lines are stable and most capable of being left as is for longer than the newer products.
In other words, they actually have a long-term product strategy. Will some folks be left behind, or left out altogether? Sure, but name one successful company that isn't willing to alienate an ultimately minuscule fraction of its existing mature base?
Ultimately, the market decides if they're right or wrong, and thus far the market has decided they're right.
So much heat, so little light.
