Was really hoping they'd launch a new iMac today, disappointed, couldn't give two ***** about the iPad

Why Apple would have waited less than a week to give a minor spec bump for the iMacs when MBPs were updated last Thursday? 27" iMacs didn't get any publicity when they were released.

waiting on the update as well. they should release updates for the macbook pros and imacs at the same time. want to purchase!

I didn't think there were any rumours of today being anything other than an iPad announcement.

I second this. Reason being that it makes sense :p , but if Apple wants any attention directed towards the iMac, then you better believe that it's going to be at least until April until we see a new iMac. It makes perfect business sense.

They will want to obviously milk each new product as much as possible. Right now there is hype over the latest MBP and now the iPad2 which are completely different markets, but if you were to throw in an iMac refresh then it could interfere with the MBP hype imo as they both semi share the same market.

is the new iMac just going to be a spec bump or is it due for a re-design?

Spec bump. They really can't do a redesign, there's nothing really to change. It's almost impossible to make it thinner due to physical restrictions, and heat distribution.

It looks gorgeous though :D , but we won't see a redesign until 2012 and even then it will probably be a minor change

The current design is brilliant, and I for one really like the "chin" that others don't. All you will see really is a cpu/gpu upgrade and Thunderbolt really.

This. I seriously like the chin, it gives the iMac definition. Without it, it feels like a small cinema display. I also like how they shaved it down a little from the 24" and then stretched it. It looks really nice.

I was toying with the idea of buying a cinema display, and I don't like the look of it at all, and started looking at a low end or cheap refurb 27" instead to keep the same look. I really don't like how the cinema display looks next to the iMac, the chin just makes it look like a far nicer finished product.

hmm. To each their own. I have both a 27" iMac and a 27" CD. I much prefer the CD. In a modestly lit room, the black bezel around the CD is not visible and causes the screen to appear to simply float in the air.
