At engadget, they referenced the "ringtones store". For some reason, I am unable to locate. If I type in (itunes) ringtones, etc..., I just get ringtone apps.

On the iPhone itself. Open up iTunes store, go to More - then ringtones. Or you can search on an artist, there will be a section for ringtones.

Apple made me authorize another "computer" when I synced the ringtones from my iPhone to the iTunes, when I refused initially it wouldn't sync them back to my iPhone... so it took up another authorization spot on my 5-computer limit authorization list... what a rip-off.

Can this be done using the iPhone ? Do you have to have 3.1 to do it ? Then once downloaded, do you have to synch to get the ringtone on the iPhone ? Or do it straight from the iPhone ?

Actually I bought one on the iPhone, assigned it to a contact, then synched, problem is it then moves it from the Purchased list to the Custom list so it loses the association with the contact after synching.

Seriously??? on the guy that you quoted it says

Reading is fundamental my friend Mad Mac. Maybe English isn't your first language ? My question was, is this feature 3.1 only ? Is there any synching neccessary (people are mentioning synching) ? I opened up "MORE" on the iPhone, and Ringtones wasn't there. So obviously it must have to do with 3.1 or iTunes 9.0. Basically my question is, can this complete process be done without synching or using my computer ? If so, do I have to download 3.1 to my iPhone first, before I'm able to do this iPhone only (??) process ?
