which 2014 mac mini should i order

which 2014 mac mini should i order can get 0% finance and 6 % employee discount at the moment will mostly be used for internet browsing downloading torrents watching videos etc. no games maybe some video encoding . use utorrent/vlc player gom player and opera browser on a win pc at the moment .
I am looking at the mid range model to last 5 years or more should i have extra ram at build or ssd or fusion ? or keep it as it is 1tb h/d 8gb ram.
how does the mac mini handle the torrenting should I do them on an external to save the system drive ?,

I think the mid range model is a good choice for what you are doing. 8 GB should be good to last you for a while, though an upgrade couldn't hurt if you have the money. I'd upgrade to a fusion drive first though. After having SSD booting Macs for the past few years it's hard to go back to a system just running on a spinning disk.

As for where to put the files, it would depend on how much data you have. If you'd have plenty of room on the internal it wouldn't hurt them there. I personally like to keep my media off my boot drive (mainly because its a 256 SSD), but that is just my preference. Having them external would also be handy if you wanted to take them with you somewhere.

im going for the fusion have about 250 gb file plus a 2tb wdmylcloud nas drive. my monitor has a displayport connection came with a displayport to displayport cable will this fit in the mini or does the mac mini have a mini displayport connection?.
 
You will need a Mini Display port to connect to the mini @ one end and whatever your monitor has for input at the other end.
 
Which brand of cable is the best ?. Dont want to buy cheap nasty one .

One more question is the fusion better than the 256 ssd drive i can store externally if needed?.

you need mini dp cable only when you have resolution of the monitor exceeding HDMI capability. Otherwise it would be waste of the TB capabilities. Using "sledge hammer on a nail" analogy. Those DP cables are not very reliable either. HDMI, HDMI-to-DVI cables are time tested and inexpensive. If your monitor has only DP input (impossible) then you are forced to use mini dp cable. Better off get a decent Dell monitor to avoid any issue with monitor.

Got a samsung S27D850T monitor with hdmi dvi displayport res 2560x1400 .
