Shopping for a tab for the grandparents for them to take down south. Both have kindle fires but complain that they're slow. Looking at the tab 3 8.0 or nexus 7.

I have a nexus 7. It's a great tablet depending on what they're going to do with it. Just browsing the Internet and a possible video call here and there, I'd recommend it. Plus it has trim... The software feature that should keep it running smoothly for whatever life they want to get out of it. All the play store apps that I've wanted to use work great on it too. Fairly simple interface since it's running stock Android too.

Either that or an older refurbished ipad from apples website.

Agreed--for that budget I'd also recommend the Nexus 7--best bang for the buck.

What model of Kindle Fire are they using? If they're comfortable with the UI and Amazon ecosystem, the new 7" HDX have top notch hardware (Snapdragon 800 CPU--very fast, with full HD 1080p display) and fit their budget.
