I have a SR MacBook Pro (4GB) and a Mac Pro running Windows XP through Bootcamp. I am planning to upgrade to 64-bit OS. Do Windows XP Professional 64 bit, Vista 64 bit and linux 64 bit work well on such systems? Have all the compatibility problems (such as driver problems) fixed? If I end up choosing Windows, which 64 bit version do you recommend?

Vista 64-bit is supported by Boot Camp, however I believe only the Mac Pro restore discs include those drivers. One forum member made them available for download so a search should find them.

Windows XP 64 and Linux are not supported by Boot Camp, so you need to get the drivers yourself. A search of both this forum and Google will provide a list of what you need.

XP 64 is a joke. Even the most hardcore Microsoft fanboy will tell you that. The handful of drivers that are there are spotty at best. Vista 64 is awesome. There are drivers everywhere by most manufacturers (it's not like they didn't have time to get them out). Apps work great as well. It's nice to be able to use more than 3 GB of RAM too. :)

XP64 doesnt work well on anything. Why would you want to use Linux anyways? Its pretty limited in its uses.

Vista 64 is the best OS, better than XP and Vista 32. The only reason I dont use it is because stupid Macdrive doesnt have a 64bit version, and I need access to a big HDD I formated to HFS+ and dont have a way to back it up so I can make it NTFS again.

Diving in with a vote for Vista64 here (I run business as its most of Ultimate but cheaper). Gaming is fine on it and it loves all the ram my Mac Pro has to give..

:)

(dont even consider an XP OS now as Vista is the M$ flagship and XP is retiring)

If you have to run a 64bit OS go with Vista 64. Even though I hate Vista (its the reason I own a mac so I guess I can thank it) Vista 64 bit is a TON better then XP 64 bit. XP 32 bit was fine but dont ever if you can use xp 64 bit. We have some around the office and theyre miserable to repair. Like others stated, good luck with drivers on XP 64.
