One of my app, ABContacts, has always suffered users complains about the icon.

I've produced a new one but I'm sure even this one will not satisfy all my users :)
So I need a "poll" to decide which to keep....

Which one do you prefer ?

Late 2008. Hope you keep it.

Edit: As others pointed out below, that is the one that looks professional.

To be honest. I like the last one the most out of the 3, but it's too strong. I would suggest dulling the background a little bit. But, what do I know?

The last one looks like a 10 year old made it in paint shop. If this app is geared towards "business" users, I would recommend the late 2008 icon. I dislike the RGB brightness of the first icon.

Of the three, late 2008. It has people, not one person (it's contacts, with an s, i.e. plural) and three as in A, B, C. Plus the spiral binding suggesting a phonebook. It's also not a drastic departure from the original. There's some value in consistency, especially if you've had some success/exposure.

I chose none, but to be honest, the first one. Not the last one for sure, and the first one has more color and is more vibrant than the gold one. Make the colors a little sharper and it'll be perfect.

Definitely the late 2008 icon. It looks the most professional and businesslike.

Late 2008. Same reason as others have said.

BTW... If the main complaints you're getting are about the icon, you've done good.

Definitely late 08. Perhaps though you could "soften" it by making less of a contrast between the low/highlights. But it is the better of the three.

Early 2009 is ugly.

Late 2008 is very dull.

Use the first one, but instead of colouring in the people, make them silver embossed in a similar style to Late 2008. Keep the coloured tabs (although improve the colours and make them less child-like.

To be honest, non are wonderful.

Of the new ones #3 is best, but I think you need to apply the affects to the original icon and remove the shadow/outline from each figure. But it is certainly the right direction in my view, an all together brighter icon.

They're all pretty horrible because of the "My-First-Photoshop-Image" type effects added, like drop shadows and emboss.

The colours are also extremely dull and lifeless.

Start from scratch I would say, and possibly hire a new designer.

I still prefer late 2008, but my recommendation would be to make it uniquely yours. Leverage your A, B, C and put a letter on each person's chest, like a namebadge, or A, B, C vertically on the tabs. Something so people see it and know it's your app. Otherwise, it could be any contact app. Did you see the thread about iThings and WhitePages? iThings totally ripped it off, but WhitePages didn't do anything unique to prohibit it. I like how AppCubby and Smule (Ocarina, etc.) have some consistency to their brands. You have three apps and ought to decide which brand to go with and stick to it.

Keep the late 2008 icon.

It is the most professional. This app is a utility app and is for doing business...both professional and social...so should reflect that, which the 2008 one does.

This app is not a game, it is not a media app, it is not an entertainment app...it is a professional business app, maintain the late 2008.

Thanks for a super app that continues to perform and work professionally.

@MacToddb thank you for your recommendation, I'll think about using some common style for all apps but they are intended for different audience so I'm not sure it's ok to use the same "style".

@SFCArcher, I'm happy to know you appreciate the app.

Here is another (and probably the last one) proposal, it comes from another designer that has adapted the original icon, he's a macrumors user :) It needs some adjustment because the designer worked on a low-res file.

Do you like it ? I like it !!

Its almost acceptable...I think that if you add colored tabs then you should put silver letters on the tabs. The book itself is pretty good...would like to see a larger size/version. I understand that there is a call for color out there so if you use color, recommend you use silver letters to maintain the professional aspect of the antique looking cover which does have a business/personal appearance. Without letters the colors clash, by adding letters it would mellow the colors and create cohesion between professional and the personal address book.

Still like the late 2008 the best but this one comes in second if color is required by the majority.

Count me among those who still prefer the late 2008 version over all of the other offered alternatives.

I like it! Re the other apps, I understand they're for different audiences, but you should consider a style that is consistent.
