Which app will show saved Maps/Locations from online account?

iPhone Geniuses:

I thought this would be easy, but I've been at it for an hour+ with no luck. I am hoping to hear from people who are actually doing this; not people like me who thought it was definitely possible.


Problem: I want to build an itinerary for a Thanksgiving trip while on the web (on my Thinkpad).

Then, I'd like to access those saved places on my iPhone when I'm actually on the trip walking around (San Fran).


How are you getting this done today?

I first thought Google would be the obvious answer.
But then I saw Google's own comparison page:

Then, I tried Mapquest.

From Thinkpad: I created a Mapquest account, and used New Mapquest to add 3 test places to a saved "My Maps" for "Thanksgiving 2010". So far so good.

From iPhone: I installed MapQuest from AppStore (the one with the white on green 'm' logo.) Logged into same Mapquest account. No luck. No "my maps" or "my places" showed up on my iPhone.
Then, I saw this:

"Note: If you use the My Maps feature on New MapQuest, you cannot access your saved maps from your mobile device." ... "If you want to access your saved maps and directions from your mobile device, you must use our My Places feature on Classic MapQuest. "

Back to Thinkpad: I went to Classic MapQuest, and created the same 3 test places for my Thanksgiving 2010 itinerary.
On iPhone:
1) Logged out of Mapquest account, logged back in. No saved places were visible
2) Deleted Mapquest app, reinstalled it, and logged in to same account. Still, no saved places were visible.

Is anyone actually doing this with Mapquest?

What other applications should I try?
 
What if you set up an itinerary in Google then mail the link to yourself then click on the link in Mail on your iPhone? Does it open the webpage and keep you there or does it get you to the Map App? If it does keep you on the website, it is good enough?

I would try it myself but I don't good access to the outside world from my desk at work (in case you were wondering). :)
 
Solved

Tried everything above. Best answer came via TripAdvisor, San Francisco Forum, which pointed to the person on "chuckegg.com" who described the solution using: https://mymapsmobile.com/

Result: An icon on my iPhone that links to Google Maps in a way that enables me to have almost all the functionality as the web version (nit: customized POI markers don't appear on iPhone. )

This works!

1) On the web:

I did what the warning suggested and created a completely new Gmail account for the sole purpose of adding vacation map places.

I clicked on Gmail --> more --> Maps

Used my google toolbar to search for 3 places.

Clicked once on the pushpin and in the SMALL PRINT option at the bottom of the place description, clicked "Save As". Saved 3 test places to "My Maps" in the map "San Francisco 2010" and unchecked the "public" box.

2) On the web:

Used Firefox browser to go that web page specified in the instructions above

clicked "OK" to give that web page access to my gmail account, double-checking that I was logged out of my main Gmail account, and logged IN to my new one

3) On my iPhone:

Used Safari to go to the web page the instructions specified

Clicked on the bookmark thing and then "make this page an icon on my start screen" because I'll be accessing this page a lot between now and Thanksgiving

tapped on the web page icon now on my main iPHone screen

I saw... nothing! undeterred, I kept fiddling.

I finally saw the map names

(I now have San Francisco 2010 and Sausalito 2010)

trick: I believe what had to do was swipe DOWN on my iPHone where a new option became visible up top to refresh that screen

Now, I simply search in google for and Add places to the 2 gmail maps

on iPHone I swipe down, click refresh, and shazam, it's all there!

I'll also be able to share this with everyone on the trip simply by giving them access to my gmail vacation-specific account. So the "how do we get to..." questions don't all fall on me to answer!
 
Definitely BTN (better than nothing), but not optimal.

Solution is definitely BTN (better than nothing), but not optimal:

Although I DO want to do most of my vacation planning on my 24" monitor or even my 13.3" laptop, it could be convenient to be able to make "Points of Interest" small changes on my 3.5" iphone screen and then have the POI info updated so I can see it on my laptop. That can't happen.

What I CAN do is great though:

Having all the info handy will help me to be very flexible in-the-moment, instead of having to stop or make phone calls "are you open for lunch"etc or flip open a book, or find the right paper.

Now, on my iPhone, I CAN simply "tap" an icon on my first screen, then see my map list, along with any info I copied and pasted from the web while on my laptop.

(and see a list of all my POIs with whatever other info I copied and pasted from the web while on my laptop. Examples: )

I just signed up for Skobbler online, but it appears the only addresses it can find are UK addresses.

Is that true or am I missing something.
