Hello, while watching youtube videos from the iPad 12.9" 2017, I see two kinds of black borders caused by the bezel and the aspect ratio of films. It is kind of ugly. So, I consider to purchase the iPad PRO 12.9" 2018. On the 2017 version, when viewing websites in Portrait mode, the bezel thickness on both the left and right edges seem to be good (not too thin but not too thick). My thumbs stay on top of the bezel without covering the viewing screen. The bezel thickness on the top and at the bottom look OK but about 25-50% thinner could be better. I guess Apple have to design base don the aspect ratio and DPI requirements. Weight of the device may also affect the decision.

I have seen videos of mockups of the IPP 12.9" 2018. The mockups shown few months ago had a notch but recent mockups don't. In one video, it shows the bezel so thin that the thumbs cover the viewing screen. I won't like that.

What bezel size do you prefer on the 12.9" 2018 and why?

I only use the 12.9 in landscape mode. My thumbs are a little wider than the thick bezels if placed flat, but I’m still able to comfortably handle and hold the iPad without touching the screen. In portrait mode, I’d have to let my thumb hang way off the edges to avoid touching the screen.

I guess that means I prefer the existing bezel width. Hmmmm.

I can see bezeless designs for smaller devices but the 12.9” form factor is large and has been stated already because of its size the larger bezels are helpful in carring the device securly, especially for brief stints one handed as one interacts with the screen with the other hand.

When the rumor mill of bezeless ipads started to surface I bought my 2017 IPP 12.9 purposefully because I wanted the bezels and TouchID, not bezeless and face id.

Symmetry. It would look well-framed. What I find odd is that so many people who are so concerned about the appearance of their devices aren't bothered by bezels that are different sizes... especially when the iPad (perhaps more than the iPhone) are used in both landscape and portrait modes.

I don't want iPads to be bezel-less. I'd like them to have the same size bezels (top/bottom in portrait mode) as the left/right bezels. That would certainly help with gaming... and give a little extra room for the onscreen keyboard if the outside dimensions remained the same but the screen made larger.

Those are not mutually-exclusive choices. ;) iPad 1-4 had the same size bezels on all 4 sides. I want that, but the bezels should be the size of the current left/right bezels (in portrait mode) on all 4 sides.
Sorry should have phrased it as expand the sides to match the top/bottom like iPads 1-4 or reduce the top and bottom to match the sides :D

The thing about doing that on the 12.9 is the weight when holding the device one handed from an edge is naturally different in landscape vs portrait by virtue of the aspect ratio. I find myself placing my thumb inside a little more on the bezel when holding the 12.9 in landscape orientation. It’d be an adjustment but I can appreciate having symmetry too. The 12.9 could probably lose a quarter inch on the top/bottom for sure.

Ok. Thanks
