I already have hipstamatic and tiltshift generator. but everyone says i need to get "camera +" but im not sure if that means "Camera Plus Pro" or "Camera+" which one do you guys think is best?

Right now, I think ProCamera is the best camera replacement app available in the App Store. It's got a lot of advanced features that you can use, but they don't get in your way if you don't. I particularly like the anti-shake stabilization, the multiple composition grids, and the white balance lock is about the best I've tested in a camera app. It's also got a decent set of image editing tools so you can make basic adjustments to the image in-app.

If ProCamera is a little more than you were looking for, Camera Prime is worth a look as well. It's got the best features of a number of other camera replacement apps and it's well done. The developer is great and the app is updated regularly with new features and bug fixes.

Instagram is more of a social photo-sharing application than a standalone camera app. I've just downloaded it about two days ago, and it's pretty neat, but I don't know if I really want to use it considering i don't have the community of friends on it as I do on Twitter or Facebook for instance, so I feel like I'm sharing photos to no one.

It does have a few neat filters for the photos though.

I've always used camera Genius (mainly as I like the feature to have date and location printed on the image)

sadly, it crashed when you use the flash, and only the first pic works with the volume button with snaptap.

I have CP Pro too and occasionally use the stock camera because of the geo tagging.

Would be nice to have an app that combines everything though

Does it timestamp every image or is it like a filter that you apply?

ProCamera

I have to agree with Tomple and LifeInLoFi, ProCamera is a really nice camera app with of great features. If Camera+ is off of the official App Store then you might be able to find it on Cydia.

Im using ProCamera as well. Auto White Balance!

Anyone using Infinicam (as opposed to Hipstamatic)?

I've tried Infinicam, and although it has a lot of effects, I have found very few worthwhile ones.

Can Hipstamatic alter photos taken with Apple's camera app?

Nope. Hipstamatic is a camera app only. You can try SwankoLab by the same developer. You can use it to get similar effects.

Have you given PictureShow a look? While it's not Hipstamatic, it has some really nice effects, borders and film flaws.

Like the poster above me stated, you can't alter photos you've already taken. The concept of this app is to take photos and not know how the end product will look until after the photo is taken. The "viewfinder" is also really small for this reason, and it's a pretty interesting concept to sort of shoot blindly and see what you've produced afterwords.

I will also say that the nicer effects from Hipstamatic come from the in-app purchases of extra lenses, flashes, and films. The included ones in the app are just okay, but the real fun comes when you have a large collection of possibilities to mess with.

And they aren't very expensive; you basically can purchase things called "hipstapacks" which are $1 each and are bundled with often a lens, a flash, and a film.

regarding procamera...

Hi all,

I too was looking for a camera app to replace the default app. I bought procamera based on this thread (as well as other reviews). I guess I should have asked this before the $3. I trying to decouple EXIF with location. I would like EXIF for my pics but don't care about geo tag or any other location stuff. Is there a way for pro camera to allow EXIF without turning on location? I get an notice box that says EXIF is only allows with location being on. Seems silly to tie EXIF to location since EXIF contains so much more than just geo tag info.

also, from a privacy concern, If I turn location on just to get EXIF, I now have to remember to strip geo info off of EXIF before posting which means, I would need yet another app for that? Just seems wrong.

thanks

Camera Plus Pro will allow you to save EXIF information with or without geotags. They have a free version available "Camera Plus" that you can try. But I'm not sure if it does the EXIF data.

Still, their interface is quite clunky. Especially saving from their built-in camera roll to the main camera roll on the phone. So I recommend trying the free version first before spending the money on the full version. But just looking at the options, it does appear to support most of the more popular features found in most other camera apps and wouldn't be a bad camera replacement if they would invest some time on the interface.

is there any third party camera app that saves directly to the camera roll? All the ones i've tried so far save to it's own gallery then you have to move them to the camera roll.

Camera Prime has the option to save directly to the camera roll. It's found in the app's settings. ProCamera does it by default.

Hipstamatic saves the prints directly to the camera roll. They're also saved in the gallery in the app though too, but you aren't required to move them into the camera roll as they do so automatically.

I don't think Camera+ will be coming back to the store - it seems that taptaptap went on a grab-the-money-and-run scheme with Camera+... :(

I am looking for an app that preserves the GPS EXIF data during the Camera Roll export, it appears that ProCamera pulls this one off.

Can anybody confirm that your ProCamera pics show up in places on the iPhone 4 (iOS 4.2.1)?

The current version of ProCamera does not have a lightbox. Images go straight to your camera roll. Pretty quickly, too -- it's one of the fastest shooters available. Right now, it's my third-party camera of choice.

A new update is being prepared. I don't know what additions the developer is making to that version.
