Which Codec to use when burning CD's?

Hello,

When i try burning a Music File onto CD, using my Powerbook - And play it in the car, an error message appears on the CD player - I'm not sure which codec to be using and I do know that the MP3 Codec does not work.

What other codec are there? - And which programs do you recommend to use when burning CD's with a Mac?

Are you burning the files directly onto the CD or are you making a music CD in iTunes?

If you are making a standard music cd, there should no issue with codecs. It is all done for you. No mp3 or aac selection is required.

But, on older cars(pre 2000) burned cds have issues with not playing at all. I had to upgrade my car stereo for this. The old one played comercial cds fine but no burned ones.

yeah, how old is your car's stereo? That's probably the problem. Do you have any other stereos you can try the disk in?

could maybe be the quality of the disks? I remember years and years ago when I first started using CD burning I was always told if you wanted to make a CD you need to use the more expensive disks not the dirt cheap ones that were designed just for computer use. Is that still true now...or was it ever true? I use cheap disks now for CD burning to listen to stuff in my car and don't have a problem but non of my current equipment is that old.

They had "music" CD-Rs a while back which were pretty much identical to regular CD-Rs but they cost more, and that extra cost went to some sort of record-label consortium.
